Pricing Your Homes Central Air Conditioner.

We are into late May and the heat of the summer season is starting to descend upon southern Ontario and the greater Toronto area. If you are looking for an air conditioner to cool your home this summer but unsure of the costs then we hope to break it down to help you better understand where your money goes. Central Air Costs First off replacing a central air conditioner is usually cheaper than if you have never had one.  The reason for the price discrepancy is due to the extra time and work needed to modify your duct and venting system above your furnace.  An A-coil has to be installed to allow your homes warm air to flow through the chilled coil ultimately cooling the interior of your home. Free Quotes Okay, more importantly what is it going to cost? Just for a small warning I won’t go into specific numbers because each home is different. I have in the past quoted specific numbers only to have a customer reference what I had written, albeit he was in completely different situation and stubbornly refused to listen as to why the prices were different. Thus pricing in this article is simply for example only, I would be more than happy to answer any question you have and give you exact pricing for your home, simply give me a call (647) 925-1930. When installing a new air conditioner two of our technicians will come out to your home with a brand new system that was properly sized and selected by you the home owner during the initial pre consultation.  The price of your central air system will be completely determined by the size, efficiency, and brand that you select.  You can expect somewhere from $700 to over $5000 for a just the air conditioning unit alone. Included in the Installation Our installation includes the A coil, condensation collection systems, charging the lines with coolant, as well as all the labour needed to run the new copper coolant lines and even removal of your old system and all components. Our installation fee can range from around $200 to well over $1000 if your home needs multiple air conditioners. It’s incredible difficult to...

One Last Season For Your Air Conditioner

One Last Season For Your Air Conditioner

If repairing your central air conditioner will get you through one last season here in Ontario then this might be the one to try.  Call our central AC repair team who have been trusted for years by homeowners throughout Toronto and the GTA. We are certified to make air conditioner repairs on top brands like Trane, Carrier, Bryant, Lennox, Amana, Goodman, and many more. As we all know this winter has been a bit on the extreme side of things compared to last season.  Currently as I type this the great lakes have 92% ice coverage, this is way higher than anything we have seen in the last 35 years.  Forecasters are suggesting that the deep cold and abundance of moisture (ice and snow currently) will contribute to a cooler damp summer season.  This of course lends to the idea that making it through one more season with your current central air conditioner might be a good plan, and it could be. Give us a call (647) 925 – 1930  to have your central air inspected and serviced to maintain your warranty and ensure proper efficient working order before the summer heat hits us. Regardless of whether you as a homeowner or small business owner is looking to purchase a new air conditioner or have your existing system repaired, we have exactly what you are looking for.  We can also install your new system, fix a broken AC, or even organize regular maintenance to maintain warranty. What Does It Cost To Run Your Air Conditioner In Toronto

What Does It Cost To Run Your Air Conditioner In Toronto

Are you interested in seeing how much it will cost to run your air conditioner in the Greater Toronto Area.  We took some time to break down the costs associated with some different sized and efficiency air conditioners. Electricity Costs Sure the hydro companies say we have comparable electricity prices within Ontario at around 8 cents per kilowatt hour but they don’t take into account all the extras we pay on top of that. To get a true cost we have taken the most recent electrical bill here from the office added all the fees up and divided by the kWh. Electricty: 405 kWh @ 8.3 cents = $33.62 Delivery Charge: $47.03 Regulatory Charges: $2.71 Debt Retirement Charge: $2.84 HST: $11.21 Total: $97.41 Clean Energy Benefit (10%off):  $9.74 One Month Bill Total  —  $87.67 Now taking the bill total and dividing it with the kWh used give us $87.67 / 405kWh = .216 or 21.6 cents per kWh Electrical Cost To Run Your Air Conditioner   AC Size AC SEER Cost @ 8 Hours Cost @ 12 Hours 1 Ton 7 (1970’s) $88.87/Month $133.30/Month 9 (1990’s) $69.12/Month $103.68/Month 11 (2000’s) $56.55/Month $84.83/Month 15 (current) $41.47/Month $62.21/Month 1.5 Ton 7 (1970’s) $133.30/Month $199.95/Month 9 (1990’s) $103.68/Month $155.52/Month 11 (2000’s) $84.83/Month $127.24/Month 15 (current) $62.21/Month $93.91/Month 2.0 Ton 7 (1970’s) $177.74/Month $266.61/Month 9 (1990’s) $138.24/Month $207.36/Month 11 (2000’s) $113.11/Month $169.66/Month 15 (current) $82.94/Month $124.42/Month 2.5 Ton 7 (1970’s) $222.17/Month $333.26/Month 9 (1990’s) $172.80/Month $259.20/Month 11 (2000’s) $141.38/Month $212.07/Month 15 (current) $103.68/Month $155.52/Month 3.0 Ton 7 (1970’s) $266.61/Month $399.91/Month 9 (1990’s) $207.36/Month $311.04/Month 11 (2000’s) $169.66/Month $254.49/Month 15 (current) $124.42/Month $186.62/Month A properly sized air conditioner should run nearly continuously during a hot summer day.  On average most homes will require the AC to run for 6-12 hours. Results When using the true costs of electricity it’s easy to make the case for upgrading to a more efficient air conditioner.  Simply upgrading to a SEER 15 central air can reduce your hydro costs associated with your AC by 50%.  Also a SEER 15 AC is a lower end system, we have air conditioners with up to 24 SEER . Location The GTA is quite large and temperatures can be significantly different between...

Winter Air Conditioner Care

Winter Air Conditioner Care

Your home air conditioner was probably one of your more expensive purchases and thus you want to take care if it.  Winter can be damaging to your system but removing it and storing it inside is not really an option for most home owners. We will discuss some of the ways you can protect your air conditioner as well as some of the things home owners do that can hurt your system. Winter Air Conditioner Location If your air conditioner is near a walkway, porch, or a location that has the potential to get salted for ice accretion then you are going to want to take additional action to protect your AC from salt.  The salt will speed up corrosion significantly.  I have seen home owners use skids with a tarp stapled to the outside in order to provide a sufficient salt and snow blockade. Water or ice dripping from the roof onto your air conditioner can be a serious issue.  Water expands when it freezes and can seriously damage your system.  Be proactive and ensure that the eaves troughs above are clean and debris free.  As a test you can spray the roof with a hose above your system to ensure that the troughs are not leaking and water is being diverted sufficiently. Snow drifts and blowing snow are a fact of life; if your air conditioner sits in a location that is prone to snow drifts you are going to want to protect it.  Blowing snow can penetrate right into the heart of an AC.  Try using an old skid as a snow block or your local hardware store likely has some snow fence. Winter Air Conditioner Protection An air conditioner cover is a great idea for Toronto and surrounding area homeowners.  The best types are made with a vinyl top, mesh sides, and a vinyl skirt around the bottom few inches.  The mesh allows air to flow though the air conditioner drying it out in the spring when snow is melting back into water. The most prevalent point of entry for water and snow is through the top of your AC where the fan sits.  Placing a piece of plywood with a few bricks or rock on it...

Can You Run Your Air Conditioner In The Winter?

Can You Run Your Air Conditioner In The Winter?

There could be any number of reasons why someone may want to run their AC during the winter. By winter I am suggesting the cold season being anytime from October to March here in Toronto or the GTA. For example, it could be when you are hosting the’ turkey dinner and the oven plus the burners are on along with extra family members and friends, your house can turn into a sauna.   You very well could here someone say “it’s hot in here, can you turn the AC on?”. Alternatively you may experience a lot of humidity at a point during the winter where it collects on your windows and turning on the AC would be an effective way to remove that water vapour.  Sure you may have checked the fan to ensure its not blocked up with snow, or maybe you have a cover and simply removed it so you can fire the air conditioner back up temporarily. It’s not like you can’t run your air conditioner in the winter, it more that you are running your system outside the design parameters.  All the repair techs here would strongly advise against it. Nowhere in the owners manual does it give specific instructions against running your air conditioner in the winter, but they do elude to it.  Take a look at some of the charts showing efficiency, you may quickly find the lowest temperature shown is around 60 F (15 C for Canadians).  The charts only show so far as most home owners would simply open their windows rather than running the air conditioner. On top of common sense many air conditioners are equipped with factory installed low ambient controls to prevent operation in low temperatures. In terms of harm you can cause to your air conditioner… The compressor can overheat as the oil is too think to circulate in cold temperatures, causing the unit to fail.  If this is a rental air conditioner there is a good chance the company renting to you will hold you accountable for running the system during the winter. Primarily you would simply want to open your windows to cool your home down in the winter months....
